Coast Music Therapy is committed to serving children and adolescents who require a creative approach to learning by utilizing music to facilitate individual growth and achievement. We believe that accessing an individual's strengths to overcome personal challenges leads to a meaningful and positive learning experience.

In addition to our work with children and teens who experience autism and developmental disabilities we also serve a wide range of special needs across the lifespan including traumatic brain injury, stroke, Alzheimer’s Disease, and emotional disorders.

We promote a scientifically validated approach to the use of music as an innovative treatment tool for individuals with special needs. As an effective motivator, memory tool, shared social interest, and means to structure speech & language, music is an ideal complement to an individual’s treatment program.

Our programs include:

  • Adapted Music Lessons
    Annual Music Recitals
    Toddler Music Sessions
    School-Based Consultations
    Tuned in to Learning Curriculum
    Individual Music Therapy

Our sessions offer a dual focus of encouraging an individual’s musical interests and talents, while also providing therapeutic support in areas such as cognition, communication, social & emotional development, and motor functioning. Coast Music Therapy also offers music-assisted learning supports that can be implemented throughout the week by the individual’s family, school team, or private therapy providers. This provides the best opportunity for generalization and transfer of skills across settings.

Our adapted music lessons can accommodate individuals of all ages and functioning levels regardless of prior musical experience. Using techniques such as color-coded note reading systems, visual supports, games, behavioral modifications, sensory techniques, and movement we are able to find a teaching approach that best suits the individual’s unique learning style.

Focus areas for adapted music lessons include:

  • Keyboard
    Guitar
    Basic Percussion
    Voice
    Songwriting
    Music Recording
    Music Theory Software Programs
    Drama
    Rhythm Instruments

All of our staff are Board Certified Music Therapists who have met the national requirements set by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (www.cbmt.org)
